Real Age: All About Men

RealAge Tip of the DAY for August 30, 2007

All About MEN: Fountain of Youth for Your Muscles
Your hair may thin and your jawline may seem determined
to move south, but there's one thing you never have to give
up as you grow older: young muscles.

Strength training affects muscle DNA on a cellular level,
giving it the profile of much younger muscle tissue.
The result? Pump some iron and you'll considerably narrow
any natural strength gaps that exist between you and those
still-wet-behind-the-ears younger men.

Push-Up Power

Remember when 73-year-old Jack Palance did one-handed
push-ups on stage at the '92 Oscars? That could be you.
Well, maybe not the Oscar part. But any guy can be fit past
50 if he strength-trains regularly.
(Try these on-the-go workouts and kiss withered-
old-man muscles goodbye.)

Here's how a recent study proved it. Before going through
a resistance-training program, the older men in a study
were nearly 60 percent weaker than the younger guys.
But after 6 months of chest presses, leg extensions, and
other resistance exercises, the senior group's muscle
strength doubled! They closed the gap to just 40 percent
less strong. Imagine what a whole year of push-ups could
do . . ..
(Start toning your trunk with these abdominal
exercises.)

Turning the Clock Off
Muscles get weaker as you get older for lots of reasons --
and most of those reasons boil down to the natural aging
process. But strength training halts much of that -- right
down to changing the rate at which muscle cells are
programmed to expire.

Now, which protein powder can help pump you up?
Here's your answer.

Hate is Alive and : Well, in the USA....

The previous post regarding a Hate crime in Germany
needs to be seen in a different light so as not to
give the impression that Indians are only unsafe there.
So I give you a link to the SFGate.com article about
the beating of an Indian couple from San Francisco
back in July.

Note to self: I must take a closer look at crimes

of this type and post accordingly.....

Keeping An Open Mind....

The Pink Panther series - animated or otherwise - is
almost sacred to me, so I have to ask myself this :

how the hell did this happen and what were they thinking ?

Just Jared
has pics of Aishwarya Rai
on the sets of
The Pink Panther 2 with Steve Martin. Yes, 'Ash' just had
to accept the role turned down by former Miss Universe
Jennifer Hawkins and Miss Universe 2001 finalist
Celina Jaitley.

I'm keeping an open mind but it's not easy.....

Web Worker Daily : Printing Tip

Sound advice and valuable tips presented in a
simple straightforward manner are the norm for
the Web Worker Daily Blog.

"If you print a lot of documents, and especially if you
support a number of color printers, you’re aware of
the staggering costs of ink and toner. The printer
business works on the classic razors and razor
blades business model, where the central device
costs next to nothing, but blades, ink cartridges and
toner cost a fortune. The good news is that by setting
your printers to print standard documents in Draft mode,
and then switching to better output quality only when
you need to, you can save a bundle."

More Water, Less Weight

Real old news by now. Bears repeating since it
reinforces your resolve, refreshes your retention
rate,
and rocks your rectum....really !

Real Age.com Tip for Aug. 21, 2007
Here's the deal, dieters. You'll make great strides in your
effort to lose weight if you get a little extra of this
past your
lips: water.
Upping your daily water intake by 33 ounces --
that's
about 4 additional cups -- could help you melt an
additional 2.5 pounds over the course of a yearlong diet.
Here's the simple science behind the claim.

Water, Water Everywhere

When researchers evaluated the water-drinking habits
of overweight women who were following various popular
diets (from Ornish to Atkins), water intake helped tip the
scales in the right direction. The women who either upped
their water intake or replaced sweet drinks with water lost
about an extra 2.5 pounds. But it had to be water:
Switching to or adding diet drinks didn't have the same
effect.
(Read this article on the smart way to use sugar
substitutes.)

Why Water's Great
So how does H2O give dieters an edge? It may be that
drinking water helps reduce calorie intake -- you're full of
water, so you eat less! It could also be that the agua alters
your metabolism in some helpful way. Just keep in mind
that drinking water, by itself, doesn't melt pounds.
The women who benefited from the extra H2O were
already on reduced-calorie eating plans.
(Drinking water may be good for this, too.)

How much water do you need each day?
This article can help you figure it out.

A-I Cuisine

I am not an Anglo-Indian by birth since I am the product of a Bengali
female and a Madrasi Male. But almost everything else
about my
upbringing and life in India has been Anglo-Indian :
school, church,
best friends, girlfriend, etc. The best times of my life have
been in the
company of Anglo-Indians, to the extent that I visited
India
after an absence of over twenty years solely for the purpose of
being
the Best Man at my Anglo-Indian friend Russell Newby's wedding
to
my Anglo-Indian cousin, Marilyn Miller.

So naturally with this background the cuisine I crave is the Anglo-Indian type.

Now that I'm in the USA, there are plenty of Indians and Indian grocery
stores
and restaurants that ensure my taste for Indian food stays intact.
But like the
Jews of Indian descent, the Anglo-Indians are an almost invisible
, slowly
declining group and so is their wonderful cooking tradition. How nice then,
to find the 'real deal' in Bridget Kumar an A-I ( the common abbreviation
for 'Anglo-Indians' ) who so generously and skilfully shares her knowledge
and traditions via her Blog at
http://anglo-indianfood.blogspot.com/
and her website at
http://www.anglo-indianrecipes.com/

Speaking of Anglo-Indians, there are attempts to keep their lively
tradition and culture alive in the form of regular and well-organized
worldwide reunions. One of the biggest ones is now underway in Canada.

Don't Dismiss This Turban

His Turban may look out of place here at the Laurel Hollow,
New York waterfront, but he needn't be disturbed.
He is, after all, Harvinder Anand, the new mayor of this
95% White community of multi-millionaires in Long Island, NY.

Let's applaud this man for accomplishing the feat of winning
this post in an uncontested race, without relying on the aid of
Indian voters.
