The Houston Astrodome ~ Then and Now

From 2002 to 2003 I worked at the Hampton Inn and Suites
on the opposite side of the street from the Astrodome, and it
was typical of so many places in Texas - a vast unused piece
of forgotten land, simply serving as a landmark for lost motorists.
I found these timely and interesting links that will perhaps
give the Dome more respect than it has received after
it closed in 1999.

The Houston Astros got a new Ballpark called Minute Maid Park
and the historic Astrodome sat vacant all these years
with the exception of an occasional Liquidation Sale event or
a Electronics/Gun Show. In the meantime, investors and planners
have been trying to figure out how to make the Astrodome profitable
while it sits alongside the luxurious Reliant Park Covention Center
complex, which attracts Car/Boat/Gun shows, not to mention
entertainers like The Rolling Stones.
